Studio

Set up in 2005 Anna Champeney is a small independent weave design studio in north Spain set up and run by British weaver and textile designer Anna Champeney after moving to Spain in 2000.

Originally inspired by research into traditional Galician folk textiles the studio now uses cutting-edge compu dobby looms and CAD technology to design contemporary double-weave and other complex structures, to create beautiful, contemporary, original fabrics from natural fibres.

Natural fibres - and research is in our DNA

Research projects are our DNA and a curiosity and passion for exploring, testing and learning underlies all our products, services and collaborations. Our limited edition textile label is the material expression of our research. But our communication – as lecturers, conference speakers and in our intensive textile courses are as much an outcome of our research as our products.

We use natural materials in our design and either hand-produce the textiles in-house or collaborate with a local textile mill.

Using small-scale artisanal methods also means that we can personalize designs for you via our Made To Order service – an unusual and very individual gift idea. For in a world where identical scarves are industrially made in thousands our textiles really stand out.

Planet Friendly Quality

As weavers and designers we are inspired by the sheer luxury of the softest merino wool and cashmere, the coolness of linen, the springiness of local sheep´s wool. We also feel more comfortable knowing that our yarns are top quality, coming from natural, renewable sources. Each natural fibre has a character of its own and we hope to enhance this in our textile designs.

Our most precious hand-woven scarves and cushions are hand-dyed by us using natural dyes. These are a true labour of love, using many local dyeplants and cochineal sourced direct from Canary Island farmers. These dyes give us full traceability.

Like many colour experts we also believe that natural dyes produce unsurpassed and harmonious colour – from the vibrant raspberry, salmon and burgundy colours of cochineal to the subtle earth tones of oak bark, chamomile or walnut.

Planet-friendly quality also applies to the Louet looms which we use in the studio for sampling and hand-production, being made from sustainable certified sources of wood. The weaver´s feet still work the pedals and each row of yarn is carefully guided into its place in the fabric by the weaver´s skilled hands
